the good cause about american food

I really dislike burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks but the sweet side of american food is something i truly can appreciate. ;-)

 

   

on my further trips I probably will discover more delicious sweeties, and of course will let the world take part in my gourmet adventures.

Washington D.C.

After a short stop over in Philly I arrived in Chinatown Washington D.C. to visit my cousin Stefan and his gorgeous wife Lina. The time has come to take a short brake, recharge my batteries and pick up my sore muscles from surfin. New York's busy city life catched me on the hop with it's noisy, smelly, adventurous, thrilling and glamorous life style.

Somehow, I don’t know why, I still keep walking, wandering crazy around this city, no wonder my feet burn… With a ‘hurly-burly’ of city life there is so much to see and discover:

Penn Quarter with it’s National Archives (on display are the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights), the Sculpture Garden of the National Art Gallery and the (really long going) National Mall with it’s many museums, the Washington Monument (white marble obelisk), Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial (where Martin Luther K. delivered his ‘I have a dream’ speech from its steps before 200000people), I then ended at the White house and it’s National x-mas Tree, to go for a quick shop at Forever21. Enough for my first day in D.C.

Next day was spent to see the Union Square (used to be the biggest Railwaystaion in the world, with Beaux/Arts Structures) and the US Capitol where a police officer grabbed me to his side to take a pic and then went on with a political conversation about Austria, which. I had no idea what he was talking about… bla bla bla… politics ;-). Well, to get a really nice stunning view of historical buildings, I really can recommend the Jefferson Library building with it’s nice free exhibition.
To go green, I went to the Botanical Garden, and to eat, I went to the Eastern Markets (popular for it’s pancakes and crab cakes. it’s a really nice district). At night it was time to go out with Lina & Stefan to the Local 16 bar for a beer outdoors, where we met Peter, Harald and Andrew.


 
  
Today was meant to be another easy day in Georgetown? but ended up in a 7 hour ‘up/down hiking trip’ with Harald from Vienna… After trying some nice pralines and truffles, passing the nice views of Georgetown’s colourous, beautiful ‘mansions’, the Georgetown University (where parts of the Exorcist were filmed, also walked the Exorcist steps) and Oak HillCemetry, we had American burgers, ben&jerry’s IceCream as well as cookies. What a hot, sunny and sweaty day.

 
 

 

Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania

So when it was time to leave New York I again chose a Chinese Company to travel by bus.Still time enough for a little walkabout before leaving. Philly here I come! Cause I just had a few hours time before my next bus to D.C. would take off, I only had time for a little walkabout.

After meeting the ‘Info man’ Phill who was so kind and helpfull to lock my big backpack in the Crew’s room, I headed off to see the Old City:

Philadelphia has many national historical sites that relate to the founding of the United States. Independence National Historical Park is the center of these historical landmarks. Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independenc was signed, and the Liberty Bell are the city’s most famous attractions. Here is the central to African Amerian history. This community has been large since before the Great Migration, and despite area civil rights gains, continues to be affected by poverty and high crime.

What else did I see:

Benjamin Carpenters’ Hall, 1stBank of the US, Franklin Court with his home and working house.

Niagara Falls and 1000Islands

Was kind of adventurous to find the bus stop for the trip to the Niagara falls and Toronto. On the road we of course had a lot of traffic, Jesus, our bus driver Louis was driving like crazy.. and NY’s and NJ’s streets are in a really bad condition! Driving the very long distance through Pennsylvania my bottom totally fell asleep. After a few hours of bus ride with a chinese badly english-speaking and singing tour guide, and many many loo stops (it was so many I stopped counting), our group of tourists (mainly chinese descent) had to spend 3hours at the Canadian boarder because 2 of our girls forgot their original work&travel-visas. Well after checking in to Canada twice, showing passport 4 times we finally got a really short view of the Niagara falls by night with fireworks, before they shut down the lights at midnight. I then had a princess sleep at the Universal Inn.

My new friend from New Jersy Jharna and I got our morning shower when we took our maid of the mist boat ride, well I actually didn’t get wet at all ;-)

On top of the Skylon Tower we had a wonderful stunning view above the falls and enjoyed our circling lunch.

 

Next stop was Toronto getting a short glance at the city center, going upwards the CN Tower (with it’s elephant proofed glass) after a nice boat cruise along the harbour.

After watching some handsome canadian boys jumping around with their skate boards, we headed off to Toronto’s chinatown to have our dinner…

Next stop was 1000Islands for a boat tour breakfast, then driving back to New York and saying Good bye to my new friend Jharna.
